Almost a Year Update

It’s been a WHILE since I posted an entry here! I appreciate those who have reached out to say they really enjoy reading my blogs and just to check in with how things are going 🙂 It’s really encouraging to hear how God can use small entries such as these to speak to people in all seasons of life! I t’s coming up on ONE year since we left our NC home to embark on our journey of sabbath, healing and discovery. When I came to Taiwan last year, I hoped to post blogs regularly, mainly to keep myself accountable for intentional self-reflections and processing. However, things got so difficult that I had to give myself permission to take a break from writing.😞😞😞 Thanks for your patience and understanding! Here is an update for last year:  In summary, Jeff and I underestimated how long it would take to adjust to a new environment across the world. Just in the span of four months, Jeff contracted COVID twice, common colds multiple times, and made a trip to the ER. On top of that, we fo...

Laying the Groundwork

This is my first time starting a blog. And quite frankly I am a bit overwhelmed by what to write. There is so much I can write about. But what do I write? Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians wrote,

“‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say—but not everything is beneficial.
‘I have the right to do anything’—but not everything is constructive.”
    – 1 Corinthians 10:23

As a Christian, who believes in one’s freedom in Christ (Galatians 5), and a Chinese-American, who was brought up in the U.S. on concepts of freedom/freedom of speech, I have heard the word “freedom” thrown around a lot. But I also know what one does with ones’ freedom matters a whole lot.

As I post on this site, I pray and hope that my words may build up – more specifically that they may build up my own understanding/wisdom and deepen my spiritual walk. But I pray that the building up does not end in my own benefit, but call me into a more wholistic way of living that brings about God’s Kingdom. And hopefully these words may also be encouraging to others who can relate to my journey.

The words posted are meant to remind myself of my mission and purpose on this year long journey. My promise to post weekly serves as an accountability and reminder for me to walk in this journey intentionally, because…

I don’t want to just watch my time go by passively and in comfort, as I have the tendency and temptation to do.

I don’t want to just “have fun”, “eat good food”, “travel”, “be merry”. I know that all of these are good on its own, but futile without the consciousness of a wider vision and purpose. (Ecclesiastes 2:1-11; 3:1-13).

I don’t want to just move on and forget about the hardships and challenges from the last many years. But I want to face them with God. I want to find God in the midst, and as I go forward, remember how Grace brought me through.

Going forward...

I want to be open to the possibilities of God showing up, in both expected and unexpected spaces. In the Holy Spirit’s working in my own life and the lives of others. In my own self-examination and my understanding of the world around me.

I want to invite Jesus into both the excitements and the mundane.

I want to learn how to rest and how to just BE. (It’s a funny thing that society has trained us to be counterintuitive on these matters). I want to learn and believe in my worth, not based on my achievements, but simply because I am a child of God.

I want to gain faith and courage to follow Jesus into the deep waters, because only there, is true life.

I invite you to join me on my journey and follow me on this blog! I anticipate writing about many topics! Including my reasons for leaving, my healing journey, stories of God showing up, personal reflections, maybe some sermon writing, and of course, travel and foooood~ 😀

(For those of you reading who do not know, I am embarking on a one year journey of discernment and discovery of self and God. My husband, Jeff, and I have moved away from our home in North Carolina and arrived in Taiwan where my family lives as of March 29th, 2023.)
